Nomination Process and Required Documents
To apply for the awards, nominations are submitted through a designated process. Each college has the opportunity to nominate one candidate per award category. Nomination materials must include the following:
- Nomination Form
- Attachments:
- Student’s Resume: While it doesn’t need to adhere to the traditional one-page format, the resume should be comprehensive and reflect the student’s achievements as deemed valuable by the student.
- Letter of Nomination: A single letter written by someone who has gathered relevant information from various sources such as the student, co-op coordinator, research or a teaching faculty member. This letter should provide a comprehensive view of the nominee and should not be longer than two pages. Please include the characteristics of each award listed in the selection criteria as a guide to write a letter.
- Personal Statement from the Student: This should be the authentic voice of the nominee and relevant to the award. The statement should not exceed two pages in length. Please include the characteristics of each award listed in the selection criteria as a guide to write a letter.
- Supporting Materials (Optional): This can be any additional documentation that student wants to submit, for example news article about their work.
All materials should highlight the breadth, depth, and quantitative impact of student work. Only work during time at NU will be considered.
Award Committee Selection and Responsibilities
Committee members should represent each college. Graduate Associate Deans should nominate 1 member, who can serve on the committee and judge student work. Committee members can represent faculty and staff.

Based on the anticipated number of nominations, there will be one committee dedicated to selecting recipients of the Outstanding Master’s Student Awards, and for selecting recipients of the Outstanding Professional Doctorate Student Awards.
